Frequently Asked Questions
How do robotic lawn mowers work?
The robot mows the grass automatically in a random pattern. The yard is marked out by a perimeter wire around the outer edge of the lawn. When the battery runs low, they drive back to its charging station until it is ready to mow again.
How are robotic lawn mowers installed?
The robot needs a perimeter wire to know where the edge of the lawn is. The perimeter wire is attached to the ground using plastic stakes, or it can be buried. The perimeter wire should be installed around any obstacle you don't want the mower to run into or over. The wire must start and end at the recharging base.
Does Let It Mow offer installation services?
Yes, we offer installation services. We can bury the wire with a special wire layer so you will not see the perimeter wire. Please contact us with your installation questions.
Are robotic lawn mowers safe?
Yes, they meet very high standards for safety. No human has to be near the mower as it works. The blade turns off automatically if the robot is lifted. There is a stop button on the top of the mower in case you need to stop it for any reason. If the mower gets stuck or does not detect a perimeter wire it also shuts off.
How often does the robotic lawn mower operate?
Ideally the robotic lawn mower will mow your lawn once a day. They are designed to maintain your lawn so it only cuts off a small amount of grass each pass. The grass clippings are small enough that they fall back to the ground as mulch and act as a natural fertilizer, so you don't need to gather the clippings. You can program the mower to work at different times of the day or night to whatever suits your needs.
How loud is a robotic lawn mower?
Each model is a bit different in noise but can fall between 65 to 75 db(A). This is about the same noise level as a dishwasher or hair dryer so operating at night will not disturb your sleep or the neighbors.
Can the robotic lawn mower operate in all weather conditions?
Yes and no. The robotic lawn mower will work in rain or shine from -10 to +50 degrees Celcius. The mower can operate in the rain; however, to prevent the mower from getting too dirty or making a mess of the lawn, it does have a rain sensor that will tell the robot to return to the charging station. The rain sensor can be turned off if needed. Since we live in Canada, we don't want you to operate the robot in winter. We recommend you bring the mower inside for winter to prolong the battery's life.
Which mower will work best for me?
We have many robotic lawn mowers to choose from. The main factor will be how large of an area you want to mow. Some other factors may be how complicated your lawn shape is, or how many separate areas you desire. Sometimes it may be best to choose two smaller mowers instead of one larger model. If you have any questions we would be happy to help you choose the right mower for you.
